Navajo Hills I Laugh at Thee!!!
So I have been running 5-6 miles 3 times a week as of late. It started very laboriously and now it has gotten to where I'm starting to want to run longer than an hour, farther than 6 miles. At first it was very difficult because of the hills in the neighborhood I live in. These hills are monstrous at first glance, but they seem to get smaller every time I run up one. Tonight I ran after it got dark, so instead of leaving the neighborhood for a few miles and coming back, I opted to just do a long circuit in the neighborhood so I wouldn't get killed by the idiot drivers on the road racing to buy milk and bread for the impending snowstorm. I ran almost all of the really big ones in the neighborhood, either running up them, or running down them after getting up a big one. I can only think of one that I did not even go up... I will devise a circuit so this hill will not be left unscathed on my next run.
On that note, there is a poster at work that says that mountain running is a powerful narcotic. It's an ad for expensive trail running/technical running shoes. While the hills in my neighborhood do not amount to mountains, I can see how the mindset of "I will run that hill on my next run" can monopolize workout plans and become very addictive. I'm to a point in my fitness and ambition that I wish there were larger hills and mountains to run up. I have one or two in mind but after that what will I run up? I'm also considering running some of the powerline hills in the area. Ya know those long high hills on the side of the road where there are powerlines and no trees? Yes those... we'll see how that works out.

man, you're up to 5-6 miles?! that's awesome. i remember at the beginning of the year, i was running 4 miles around b'ham, up red mountain. it was great. then, turns out all the people i run with are idiots and believed a little lie that someone told them and we're not friends anymore.
right. so. basically what i'm trying to say is, running is good. you don't need a partner..and if i can ever get back to 4 a day, i'd like to join you. maybe do some trail running comps?
